The Slovak National Competence Centre for HPC in collaboration with the congress organizers invited Mr. Gustav Kalbe as one of the keynote speakers. Luk\u00e1\u0161 Demovi\u010d, who is the director of the <a href=\"\/en\/www.csc.sav.sk\/\"><strong>Centre of Operations,<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sav.sk\/?lang=en\">Slovak Academy of Sciences\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>- an institution operating the only publicly available HPC infrastructure \u2013 spoke about the current possibilities, ongoing projects and ambitious plans for significant expansion of computational capacities in Slovakia. \nThe importance of investments and support of this field was stressed also by other speakers. Prof. Ivan \u0160tich, who is active within the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/trex-coe.eu\/\">TREX CoE<\/a><\/strong>showed use cases of 2D materials modelling using the <em>QMC method,<\/em>, which is, thanks to it\u2019s robustness and scalability, especially suited for utilizing the coming exascale systems. Prof. M\u00e1ria Bielikov\u00e1 from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kinit.sk\/\">Kempelen institute of intelligent technologies\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>introduced a newly developed large neural language model for Slovak. She also mentioned the aspect of large energy consumption that comes with many AI applications and models together with the strategies scientists employ to mitigate this problem. Jozef Vivoda described models for numerical weather forecasting, employed and (co)developed at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shmu.sk\/sk\/?page=1\">Slovak hydrometeorological institute<\/a><\/strong>their level of precision as well as computational demands. Robert Cis\u00e1r from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tachyum.com\/\">Tachyum<\/a><\/strong> company and Lubo\u0161 Kol\u00e1\u0159 from HPE took part in the discussion as representatives from the private sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All speakers agreed on the necessity of investing into HPC technologies at the national level and the importance of supporting the whole ecosystem at the same time. The lack of concept on the state level and the lengthy and disproportionately complicated process of public procurement were identified as main problems when planning and purchasing new supercomputers. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eurocc.nscc.sk\/en\/\">The National competence centre <\/a><\/strong>is focusing it\u2019s efforts primarily on building the supporting ecosystem and raising the adoption of HPC tools and connected technologies across all sectors.
